Elmer D. Wilson, 82, of Pampa, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, in Pampa. Services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, December 10, 2015, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Byron Williamson, pastor, and David Teichmann officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Wilson was born October 6, 1933 in Tipton, Oklahoma to Elmer Earl and Drusilla Briscoe Wilson. He was a longtime Pampa resident and was a 1951 graduate of Pampa High School where he was a four-sport varsity athlete and a member of National Honor Society. Elmer received his bachelor’s degree in 1955 from Texas Tech University where he was president of the freshman class and a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. While at Tech, Elmer was a four-year letterman in football and a two-year letterman in baseball. He played in the Sun Bowl in 1952, the Gator Bowl in 1954, and was inducted into the Texas Tech Athletic Hall of Honor in 1992. Elmer coached football at Meadow High School from 1955-1956 and then moved back to Pampa in 1956 where he joined his father in the family business, Windsor Well Service. He owned and operated Windsor from 1956 until his retirement in 1994, and also raised ostriches from 1994-1996. In 1996, Elmer married Phyllis (P. J.) Cotham in Elko, Nevada. Elmer was an avid golfer and served on the advisory board of the Northern Texas Section of the PGA. He was a past president of Hidden Hills Senior Golf Association where he was a five-time champion, and he was a past president of the Tri-State Seniors Golf Tournament from 1994-1996. He was a past president of the Pampa Country Club, the Pampa Club, and the Top O’ Texas Red Raider Club. He also served as a member of the board of trustees of the Pampa Independent School District, the board of directors of the Texas Tech Red Raider Club, a member of the board of directors of the National Association of Oil Well Servicing Contractors, and a member of the board of directors of the Lake Meredith Yacht Club. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis (P. J.) Wilson of the home; a daughter, Kay Russell of Austin; a stepson, Kirk Cotham and wife Nelda of Pampa; a stepdaughter, Tena Sidwell and husband Reid of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Heath Parker and wife Christy of Pampa, Eric Russell of Dallas, Katy Russell of San Antonio, Noel Schulz and wife Lisa of Amarillo, and Garrett Conner and wife Lyndsey of McKinney; and six great grandchildren, Bryce, Kade, Jancey, Haley, Allyssa, and Lane. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Kim Wilson, and his brother, Jimmy Wilson. Memorials may be made to Pampa High School golf team, 111 E. Harvester, Pampa, TX 79065 or American Cancer Society, c/o Gerry Caylor, 2130 Charles, Pampa, TX 79065. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 PM Wednesday at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Home.
