Hollis Edward Stout

November 6, 1934 — December 7, 2015

Hollis Edward Stout, 81, of Poolville, died Monday, December 7, 2015 in Poolville. Services will be held at 10 AM, Friday, December 11, 2015, at Carmichael- Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa, with Rev. Barry Owens, associate pastor of First Baptist Church of Pampa, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Pampa, under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Hollis was born on November 6, 1934 in Earp, Texas. As a child he moved from town to town while his father worked where work could be found. In the early 50s, the Stout family settled in Pampa. He went on to graduate with the 1954 class of Pampa High School. He enjoyed telling stories to everyone who would listen about the good old hard days when he rode a horse to school for 10 miles! After high school, Hollis gained employment with Cabot Corporation. However, he was soon drafted by the United States Army where he served in Korea, as well as the Pentagon. His army days stayed with him as he taught his family the gift of punctuality and precision. Nobody could pack a suitcase or make a bed like Hollis. After the army, Hollis was able to rejoin his former coworkers at Pampa Carbon Black Plant. At the age of 25, he met and married his true love, Rosella Pearl Stout on April 23, 1960. Hollis was a carpenter and creative cook with the soul of a poet. His ability to make something beautiful out of nothing was a hallmark of his heart. He appreciated each flower and animal, and instilled in his children a love of all God’s beautiful works. His prime mission in life was to be a good father, grandfather, and husband. His gentle, understanding spirit combined with his sense of playfulness and curiosity that made him uniquely Hollis, and undeniably lovable. He had a love of babies and children and the possibilities that life had in store for them. He delighted in his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and lit up at the very mention of their names. His family famous homemade cinnamon rolls are a Christmas morning tradition that will live on with his grandson, Zach, whom he has mentored since childhood. Hollis was preceded in death by his parents, Tennie Holland Stout and Stephen Edward Stout; and his beloved wife, Rosella Pearl Chance Stout on January 4, 2015. Survivors include his two sons, Edward Forrest Stout and wife Sharon of Valley View, and Ricky Lane Stout and wife Carla Renee of League City; his daughter, Shelly Dawn Stout of Poolville; his granddaughter, Ashlie Renee Stout of League City; his grandson, Zachary Lane Stout of League City; two great granddaughters, Ansley Renee Stout and Zelda Rose Sherman, both of League City; his brother, Benny Lloyd Stout of Pampa; his uncle Frank Stout of Pampa; and a host of nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Curtis Elementary 5th Grade Camp Fund, Weatherford, Texas 76086. The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:30 PM Thursday, December 10, 2015, at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Home in Pampa.
