Virginia Huff Horton

Virginia Huff Horton, 88, of Amarillo and formerly of Pampa, died January 13, 2016 in Amarillo. Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, January 16, 2016, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa, with Pastor Ronnie Ferguson of the Arena of Life Church in McLean, and Travis Bennett, associate pastor of the Arena of Life Church of Amarillo, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Pampa, under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mrs. Horton was born June 29, 1927 in Spur to Marvin Ernest and Audry Cloia Huff. She was a 1946 graduate of Miami High School. She married Red Horton on December 19, 1945 in Miami. Virginia was a longtime resident of Pampa before moving to Amarillo 15 years ago. She was a member of the Arena of Life Church in Amarillo and was named Gray County Homemaker of the Year in 1991. Virginia lived her life for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an excellent cook, and brownies and barbecue sauce were her specialties. She spent her formative years helping her sisters and their father on the Emmett LeFors Ranch and they are now known as the “Golden Girls” by their family. Survivors include her husband, Red Horton of the home; two daughters, Sue Giddeon and husband Sammy, and Cindy Newman and husband Robert, all of Amarillo; six sisters, Norma Mitchell of Geronimo, Oklahoma, Mellvinia Stocking, Judy Grant and husband Larry Loter and Ann Banister, all of Amarillo, Dian Smith of Aurora, Colorado, and Monty Schaub of Hinsdale, Illinois; three grandchildren, Sissy Cooke and husband Terrell and Jenny Newman, all of Amarillo, and Justin Newman and wife Ronna of Clarendon; two great grandchildren, Remington Cooke and Payton Newman, both of Amarillo; one Godchild, Tiffani Kling of Groom; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Virginia was preceded in death by two sisters, Moleta Clark and Mary Moore; and three brothers, Marvin, Rusty and George Huff. Memorials may be made to the Arena of Life Church, PO Box 8577, Amarillo, Texas 79114. The family will receive friends from 3:30-5:00 PM Friday, January 15, 2016, at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
