Arnold Eugene “Gene” Baten, 72, of Pampa, died January 13, 2016 in Amarillo. Services will be 10:00 AM Monday, January 18, 2016, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Rev. Lynn Hancock, pastor of Briarwood Church, officiating. Military honors are courtesy of the U. S. Army, and cremation will follow the services under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Baten was born October 18, 1943 in Memphis, Texas to William Arnold and Ruby Lee Baten. He was a 1963 graduate of Pampa High School and received an Associate’s Degree in business from Frank Phillips College in Borger. Gene married the love of his life, Rebecca Bichsel, on July 11, 1970. Gene was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in combat during the Vietnam War. He worked for Dixie Parts, Pioneer Natural Gas for five years and retired from Celanese Chemical Corporation after 25 years of service. He was also a delivery man for O’Reilly Auto Parts for eleven years. He loved camping, boating, his grandchildren, his fur babies, tinkering on cars and drag racing, but most of all, he loved aggravating people! Survivors include his wife of 45 ½ years, Becky Baten of the home; three children, Rickey Baten, and Keven Baten and wife Jamie, all of Pampa, and Stephannie Ellis and husband Richard of McLean; his brother, Jerry Baten of Pampa; his grandchildren, Zoie and Zarek Baten, and Dylan and McKenzie Ellis; his step grandchildren, Kristen Ellis, Lisa Taylor, Lyndsey Ellis, Brayden Trimble, Zack Trimble and Joelee Brogdin; and three step great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
