Roy Glen Blanscet

December 3, 1930 — January 20, 2016

Roy Glen Blanscet, age 85, formerly of Pampa, died Wednesday, January 20, 2016, in Irving, Texas. Services will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, January 25, 2016, at Hobart Baptist Church in Pampa, with Pastor Mike Watson officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Pampa, under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Roy was born in Mangum, Oklahoma on December 3, 1930. While raised in western Arkansas in and around Lavaca near Fort Smith, Roy lived most of his adult life in Pampa, Texas. He and his family also lived in Sunray, Texas, and Liberal, Kansas, for a period of time before settling in Pampa in 1968. Pampa was home since that time until he and his wife of 66 years, Georgia, moved to Irving in 2014 to be near their sons and their families residing in that area. While in Pampa, Roy was employed in a number of business capacities. He worked with Mid-America Pipeline Company in its facility east of Pampa; he owned and operated a carpet retail sales and service business on Foster Street during the 1970’s and early 80’s; and he worked several years as the maintenance supervisor for the Hughes Building in Pampa until his retirement in 1995. Throughout their time in Pampa, Roy and Georgia were faithful and active members of Highland Baptist Church and, later, Hobart Baptist Church until their move to Irving. Roy was an out-going person who loved people and never met a stranger that he couldn’t talk to or share stories with. He particularly enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing card games and dominoes with friends, and he loved to bowl—famously remarking to his family (on many occasions) that he would never have been frightened to bowl on TV! He also loved baseball. Roy played baseball in high school, and he loved coaching his sons’ baseball teams while they were growing up. Roy’s love of the game and coaching motivated him to be instrumental in landing the first Little League franchise in Sunray, Texas, in the early 1960’s prior to his family’s move to Pampa. Since his retirement, Roy faithfully followed broadcasts of Atlanta Braves and Texas Rangers games as an avid fan. Roy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved God above all and who adored his family; and his family loved him. Roy is survived by his wife, Georgia, his two sons, Gary Blanscet and wife Janet and Glen Blanscet and wife Becky, all of Carrollton, Texas; four grandsons, Matthew Blanscet of Carrollton, Jonathan Blanscet and wife Leslie of Houston, Zachary Blanscet of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Mark Blanscet and wife Meagan of Little Elm; a granddaughter, Jenna Bolerjack and husband Blake of Yukon, Oklahoma; and one great-grandson, Kaden Blanscet of Little Elm. Roy was also blessed to have a grandson by marriage, Jeffrey Powell and wife Michelle of McKinney; a granddaughter by marriage, Allison Smith and husband Ryan of Stillwater, Oklahoma; and four great-grandchildren by marriage, Claire Powell, Lily Kate Powell, Gavin Powell, and Kelen Smith. Viewing and visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 PM Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors in Pampa. Family will greet friends from 5:00-6:30 PM on Sunday.
