Donald Clifton Reed

Donald Clifton Reed, 85, of Pampa, Texas, passed away on January 27, 2016 in Pampa. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 30, 2016, at Memory Gardens Mausoleum, with Pastor Joel Osborne of Fellowship Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Don was born in Magic City, Texas on May 11, 1930. He graduated from Pampa High School in 1949. Don was married to Lois Jean Tiffany in 1951 and later married Mary Ann Upton in 1975. Don worked as an operator for Celanese for 26 years. Later he owned Sir Plus Retail Store from 1980-1996. He enjoyed ballroom and square dancing, playing bridge and dominoes, gunsmithing, hunting, and reading western and historical novels. He became a 32nd degree Mason in 1976. He was also actively involved in the Moose Lodge and supported Shriner’s Children’s Hospital. Don is survived by two sons, Randy Reed of Brenham, and Joe Reed and wife Carol of Pampa; a daughter, Linda Gromowsky-Parrish and husband Richard Parish of Fort Worth; a sister, Emma Meeks and husband Leland of San Antonio; seven grandchildren, Michael Reed of Midland, Brianne Matlage and husband Karl of San Diego, California, Sara Nickson and husband Scott and Brette Draper and husband Cody, all of Amarillo, Abby Gromowsky of Charleston, South Carolina, P. J. Reed and wife Jen Sweet of San Antonio, and Teresa Reed of Pampa; four great grandchildren; and long-time special friend Larry Quisenberry. Don was preceded in death by his fiancée Shirley Nickolson in 2009. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Texas Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital, PO Box 190567, Dallas, Texas 75219-0567.
