Lupe Velasquez, 85, of Pampa, died February 24, 2016 in Amarillo. Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, February 27, 2016, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Rev. Bob Hudson, pastor of Bible Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery, under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Velasquez was born December 2, 1930 in Robstown. She married Jesus Velasquez on June 8, 1946 in Spur, and he preceded her in death in 2008. They lived and worked in many small towns in the Panhandle until moving to Pampa in 1954. Lupe loved to cook tamales, crochet, quilt and bake. She was a “mom” to many in her community. There was always room at her table. She was a longtime member of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church. Survivors include four daughters, Aide Nava of Houston, Lupe Ramos and Margie Cawthron, both of Amarillo, and Lolly Carver of Pampa; 3 sons, Jessie Velasquez and Domingo Velasquez, both of Pampa, and Rick Velasquez of Amarillo; a sister, Socorro Torres of Arlington; a brother, Cruz Olivarez of Spur; 29 grandchildren, 68 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren; and special friends, Heraclia Gomez of Pampa and Joann Graham of Amarillo. Lupe was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Velasquez in 1949; and a daughter, Rosie DeWitt in 2008. Memorials may be made to Kindred at Home Hospice, 3232 Hobbs Road, Amarillo, TX, 79109
