Celia Laurie, 84, of Pampa, died March 2, 2016 in Pampa. Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Dr. Jeff Knighton, pastor of First Christian Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Laurie was born January 20, 1932 to Charles and Luevada Baird at her grandparents’ home in Kirkland. She attended schools in Childress and graduated from University of North Texas in Denton with a degree in education. Celia taught school for over 30 years in Pampa and Amarillo. After her retirement, she loved being at home with the companionship of her dogs. She was an avid reader and spent many of her days reading the many books she had amassed over the years. For most of Celia’s life, she was a member of First Baptist Church. She loved her Lord with all her heart, and she raised her children in a Christian home, guiding them in their love of Christ. Her children and grandchildren were the most important people in her life and she was always there to give them support. Survivors include her son, Steve Scarbrough and wife Ro of Anthem, Arizona; her two daughters, Robin Nelson and husband Ron, and Melody Baker and husband Kelley, all of Pampa; seven grandchildren, Eric Scarbrough, Jason Scarbrough and wife April, Sara Maulsby and husband Jess, Stephen Nelson and wife Jenna, Stephanie Nelson, Jami Baker, and Shanna Stone and husband Jereme; six great grandchildren, Kaili Scarbrough, Leia Scarbrough, Max Maulsby, Jordan Baker, Keivan Baker and Lily Stone; nephew, Mike Reeves of Prosper; and very special friends, Jewett and Betty Scarbrough. Celia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, R. T. Laurie in 2009; and her sister and brother-in-law, Charlene and Leroy Reeves.
