Myrel Dee Looper

Myrel Dee Looper went home to be with the Lord on March 3, 2016 in Pampa. Services will be 4:00 PM Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Calvary Baptist Church, with Rev. Dallas Stringer, pastor, and Rev. Richard Bartel, associate pastor, officiating. Private burial will be in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Myrel was born on November 15, 1926 in Pampa, Texas to Joseph and Elizabeth Kortsjens Looper. He lived in Gray County his entire life and attended Grandview and Pampa High School, graduating in 1944. He was a true cowboy working on ranches, breaking horses and rodeoing across the Panhandle and Plains in the 1940s and 1950s. He owned and operated Looper Fence Company from 1961 until 2007. Myrel was married to Wanda Jones Looper from 1952 until her death in 1989. He was married to Mildred Taylor Looper from 1990 until her death in 2007. Myrel loved his Lord and was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Pampa from 1962 until his death. He was ordained a deacon there in 1965. Myrel is survived by his children, Steven and wife Robin of Dallas, Pam Fowler and husband Lonny of Pampa, Becky Saltzman and husband Tommy of Pampa, and Mike Taylor and wife Nancy of Yorba Linda, California; grandchildren, Cory Fowler and wife Codi of Pampa, Allison Looper of Amarillo, Cal Ferguson and wife Becca of Pampa, Clint Ferguson and wife Brandi of Boyd, Chris Taylor and wife Courtney of Newport Beach, California, Cory Taylor and wife Tracy of Brea, California, and Brett Taylor of Yorba Linda, California. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Myrel’s care givers Dory Jiminez, Myra Jiminez and Dora Jiminez who provided him with excellent care and allowed him to love his final days in comfort and with dignity. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 900 E. 23rd Pampa, Texas 79065; or Pampa Meals on Wheels, PO Box 939, Pampa, Texas 79066-0939. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 PM Friday, March 4, 2016, at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
