John Paul McKinley

January 15, 1926 — March 26, 2016

John Paul McKinley, 90, of Pampa, died March 26, 2016 in Frisco. Memorial services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Sunrise Senior Living in Frisco, with Rev. Rob Hamby, officiating. Additional services will be 2:00 PM Friday, April 1, 2016, at First Baptist Church in Pampa, with Rev. Byron Williamson, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery with military honors courtesy of the U. S. Navy. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. McKinley was born January 15, 1926 in Hollis, Oklahoma, to Thomas Robert and Mae Etta Dennis McKinley. He had been a resident of Pampa since 1935 and was a 1944 graduate of Pampa High School. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving during World War II, and was a survivor of Iwo Jima. John Paul married Millie Overstreet on July 16, 1946 in Pampa. He was a longtime owner and operator of Engine Parts and Supply, retiring in 1995. He was a member and former deacon of First Baptist Church, was on the counting committee for many years, and was a member of the Everyman’s Bible Class. He was a member and past master of the Pampa Masonic Lodge #966 AF & AM, Lubbock Scottish Rite Consistory, and Khiva Shrine Temple in Amarillo, where he served as district grand deputy. Survivors include his wife, Millie McKinley of the home; two daughters, Carolyn Quarles and husband Chuck of Frisco, and Gayle Curtis and husband Joe of Pampa; two sisters, Katie Richey of Bowie, and Arrilla Parker of Wichita Falls; two brothers, Bobby McKinley of Weatherford, and Darwin McKinley of Bowie; five grandchildren, McKinley Lee and husband Brandon of Fort Worth, Clint Curtis and wife Alason of Dallas, Tyson Curtis and wife Kristen and Andrew Curtis and wife Sara, all of Pampa, and Kimberly Curtis of Lubbock; and nine great grandchildren. John Paul was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Sherwood McKinley. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, PO Box 621, Pampa, Texas 79066-0621; or Thomas E. The family would like to extend a special thanks to John Paul’s caregivers, Pam Dalton, Caprice Mayhew, Jana Gregory, Maria Copado, Romelia Leal, and Janetta Burner, for their loving care. The family will receive friends at 2381 Chestnut in Pampa.
