Curtis Eugene Whatley, 84, of Groom, joined the Lord on April 17, 2016 in Groom. Services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at the United Methodist Church in Groom, with Rev. Todd Dyess, pastor, and Pastor Andy Dietz of First Baptist Church of Groom, officiating. Burial will follow in Groom Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Whatley was born March 3, 1932 in Groom to George and Verna Harwell Whatley. He married Margret Lorene Baggerman on August 15, 1954 in the Baggerman home. She preceded him in death on May 2, 2015. He was a lifetime resident of Groom, a farmer all his life, and a member of the United Methodist Church in Groom. Curtis was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Survivors include three daughters, Debbie Tigg and Sheila Whatley, both of Amarillo, and Sharlene Lewis and husband Howell of Groom; two daughters-in-law, Charlotte Whatley of Groom and Carol King of Amarillo; seven grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, one great-great grandson; a sister, Wylafae Whatley of Amarillo; and numerous cousins. Curtis was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, G. C. Whatley, Jr.; and his son, Darrell Whatley. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the United Methodist Church, 303 E. 2nd Street, Groom, Texas 79039. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 PM Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors in Pampa.
