Thomas Edwin Ammons, 96, of Pampa, died May 2, 2016 in Pampa. Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, May 6, 2016, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Pastor Jimmye Cole of First Church of the Nazarene, and Rev. Doug Yates, pastor of First Church of the Nazarene of Plainview, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery with military honors courtesy of U. S. Army, Fort Hood, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Ammons was born December 18, 1919 in Hohenwald, Tennessee, to William Green Ammons and Roxie Ann Goodman Ammons. He married Earnestine Black on November 27, 1946 in Lefors. She preceded him in death on October 14, 2000 after 53 years of marriage. Tom proudly served in the U. S. Army for three years during World War II in the Corps of Engineers, 85th Engineer Heavy Ponton Battalion, serving in France, Italy and Germany. After serving his country, he returned to Pampa where he worked as a welder for Cabot Corporation. He worked for over 30 years with Cabot, retiring in 1988 as a welding instructor. Tom had been a member of First Church of the Nazarene for 70 years since he moved to Pampa in 1946. He served the Lord and was a member of several church boards, and served in many other capacities. Tom was a strong Christian, and was a good and faithful servant. He knew that God took care of him every day. He was a perfect example of Godliness to all his family, friends and co-workers. His loving memory will be cherished by those he leaves behind; his daughter, Karon Hendricks and husband Alvin of Cedar Hill; his two sons, Dale Ammons and wife LeeAnn and Kerry Ammons and wife Sherri, all of Pampa; three granddaughters, Michelle Anderson and husband James of Irving, Leslee Diffendaffer and husband Rocky of Amarillo, and Lindsey Mickley and husband Kyle of Weatherford, Oklahoma; three grandsons, Bradley Hendricks and wife Becki of Midlothian, Andrew Ammons and wife Dru and Zac Ammons and wife Kaytie, all of Pampa; five great granddaughters, Kayleigh and Maddie Hendricks, Finlee Diffendaffer, Kenna Mickley and Olivia Ammons; four great grandsons, Luke Anderson and wife Jessica, Jake Anderson, Bo Anderson and Ezra Diffendaffer; and a great great grandson, Colt Anderson. He also leaves behind his niece, Diane Studebaker and husband Harold and their son Derek, along with other family and friends. Tom was the last surviving child of all of his siblings. Those who preceded him in death are eight brothers, Artie, Gib, Eddie, Pete, Earl, Carl, Rosco and Junior; and two sisters, Oney and Agnes. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to First Church of the Nazarene, 500 West Street, Pampa, Texas 79065. The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to Debbie Douglas and Stephanie Lynch and staff at Interim Healthcare, as well as the nurses and staff at the Meredith Place for their loving care of Tom. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 PM Thursday, May 5, 2016, in Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel.
