Elmer McLaughlin, 93, of Pampa, died May 25, 2016 in Gray County. Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, May 27, 2016, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with John C. McCall, minister of the Church of Christ on Somerville, officiating. A private family burial was held at the Miami Cemetery, under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. McLaughlin was born May 21, 1923 in Miami to Floyd and Lucille McLaughlin. He attended Laketon School, grades 1-7. He attended Miami High School, receiving the State Farmer degree in 1939, and then graduating in 1940. Elmer attended Texas Tech University, majoring in animal husbandry until he joined the U. S. Army, serving during World War II as a First Lieutenant in Korea and Japan. After his discharge, he continued his education at Texas Tech. Elmer married Myra Nell Willis on August 23, 1952 in Denton. After college, he began farming in the Laketon community. He served on the Roberts County Appraisal Board, Miami ISD Board and the Gray County Soil Conservation Board. Elmer was a wheat, cattle and swine producer. He served as president of the Texas State Pork Producers Association, and was on the Texas Pork Producers Board in the 1970’s. He received an award for his support of programs that led to improved marketing opportunities for farmers in 2007. He was a member of the Church of Christ on Somerville in Pampa. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Myra Nell McLaughlin of the home; a daughter, Judy Ann Jones and husband Royce of McKinney; a son, Jerry Dan McLaughlin and wife Minerva of Amarillo; four grandsons, Daniel Jones of Richardson, David Jones of Austin, Michael McLaughlin and wife Ally of Spring, and Matthew McLaughlin of Lewisville; four great grandchildren, Lauren Jones of Allen, Ryan Jones of Richardson, Nolan McLaughlin and Tate McLaughlin, both of Spring; two brothers, Wayne McLaughlin and wife Jan of Nacogdoches, and Don McLaughlin of Las Vegas, Nevada; a niece, Marielle Hwang and husband Bobby of Richardson; two sisters-in-law, Peggy Crouch of Abilene, and Ernestine Puckett of Hurst. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Ralph McLaughlin.
