Hershell Weldon Farber

Hershell Weldon Farber, 92 formerly of Pampa, passed away May 29, 2016 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa with his brother JA Farber a Church of Christ minister, officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Pampa under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Farber was born November 16, 1923 in Walters, Oklahoma to Elmer and Alma Farber. After high school he enlisted with the US Army where he served in the Philippines during WW II. He married Oleta Smart on August 23, 1946 in Sayre, Oklahoma. In 1953 he and his family moved to Pampa where he entered the oil and gas industry, working with Flynt Engineering Company for 28 years. He was a longtime member of Central Church of Christ in Pampa. After retirement he and his wife relocated to Amarillo to be near family. Hershell enjoyed bowling, golfing, gardening and will always be remembered for his great smile and gentle spirit. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and wife of 66 years, Oleta Farber. Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Cummings of Claude and Judy Kay Kent and husband Billy of Fairfield; a son, Larry Farber and wife Kathy of Amarillo; a brother JA Farber and wife Mary of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; a sister, Patricia Ann Pair of Sayre, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Benji Hausen and wife Stephani, Karie Crowley and husband Justin, Kellie Rogers and husband Mason, Gregory Farber and wife Leila, Grant Farber and wife Brandi, all of Amarillo; 17 great grandchildren and numerous extended family.
