Novis L "Slim" Newman, 81, of Pampa, passed away June 18, 2016 in Pampa. Services will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa, with Rev. Ken Branum, chaplain, Accolade Home Care and Hospice, officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Slim was born August 12, 1934 in Quail, TX, moving to Pampa in 1949. He married Sarah Emily Thompson on April 25, 1952, and they were married 62 years at the time of her passing in October of 2014. Slim retired from the Texas Highway department in August 1996 after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Pampa Masonic Lodge #966. He enjoyed his retirement years by spending time with friends, family and his livestock. Slim was preceded in death by an infant son, Delbert Wayne and a son-in-law, Ronald Eugene Dickinson. Survivors include 2 daughters, Alma Dickinson of Skellytown, Sheila Moody and husband Howard of Warren, Tx; 2 brothers, Cecil Newman of Pampa and Floyd Newman of Oklahoma City; 2 sisters, LoEtta Quarles of Shamrock, TX and Brenda Parks of Pampa; 4 grandchildren, Chas Daniels and husband Kirk of Houston, Michael Dickinson and wife Valarie of Pampa, Scot Moody and wife Patricia of Willis, TX and Charity Rando of Borger; and 4 great grandchildren.
