Richard Burton Palmer, Sr.

Richard Burton Palmer, Sr., 71 of Pampa, died June 19, 2016 in Pampa. A celebration of life services will be 2:00 PM Friday, June 24, 2016, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, where the family will be greeting and receiving friends. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Palmer was born July 23, 1944 in Pampa where he attended Pampa schools. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving six tours in Vietnam, and retiring on January 1, 1984. He married Linda Gray on July 23, 1973 in Washington State. While stationed in Germany, Richard delivered his daughter while waiting on the doctor to arrive. He was a long haul truck driver for many years, was a member of the V.F.W. Post #1657 and the D.A.V. Richard enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family, and a good cold beer. Survivors include his wife, Linda Palmer of the home; a daughter, Bonnie Albers and husband Chris of Pampa; a sister, Becky McCain of Bosque Farms, New Mexico; a stepdaughter, Teresa Huffman of Pampa; two stepsons, Robert Cain of Pampa, and Steven Cain and wife Angie of Sierra Vista, Arizona; seven grandchildren, Allen, Chris, Tony, Vinnie, Sienna, Braden and Chrystal Ann; five great grandchildren, Joshua, Victoria, Josiah, Shyanne and Ryland; two nieces, Lori McCain and Lisa McCain; and a nephew, Mark McCain. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Buster and Bonnie Palmer; a son, Richard Palmer, Jr.; and a grandson, Joseph Huffman, III. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
