Bette Truly, 87, of Garland and formerly of Pampa, died June 20, 2016 in Plano. Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, June 24, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church, with Nancy Ruff, parish associate pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Truly was born November 29, 1928 in Leonard. She married Jeff Truly on August 23, 1952 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1967. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from East Texas State Teachers College in 1946. Bette had been a resident of Pampa since 1956, moving to Garland in 2012. She was an English teacher at Pampa High School for 34 years, retiring in 1987. She also taught in Lubbock, San Angelo, Sweetwater and Randolph, and Houma, Louisiana. She was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church. Bette was a life member of the Texas State Teachers Association, the National Education Association, and the Pampa Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. Survivors include her daughter, Traci Truly of Garland; one niece, several nephews, several great nieces and nephews, great great nieces, and great great nephews. Bette was preceded in death by her parents, Melrose and Maurine Owens; and a sister, Fran Jenkins. Memorials may be made to the Book of Remembrance at First Presbyterian Church, 525 N. Gray, Pampa, Texas 79065; or a charity of choice.
