Johnye Sue Hart (Sue) Derington

Johnye Sue Hart (Sue) Derington, 85, of Pampa, passed away June 24, 2016 in Amarillo, A private family burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, and memorial services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ruby Moultrie, pastor, and Rev. Toni Bailey, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Spearman, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Derington was born January 23, 1931 in Kingsmill to Thelma and E. C. (Carl) Hart. She grew up in Pampa and attended North Texas State University and West Texas State University where she met William Joe (Bill) Derington. They were married on September 3, 1950, and raised four children, Melissa Ann, James Lamar, Jan Sandra and Joel William. Bill and Sue lived in Pampa until 1965 when the family moved to Denton. Sue spent her time raising their family and went to work for the City of Denton and the Denton Employee Credit Union. She and Bill returned to Pampa in 1977 where she lived until her death. In Pampa, she was manager of Pamcel Credit Union until her retirement. Sue remained active in the community. She volunteered at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School and many civic organizations. She was always eager to cook and take food to friends and family. Sue was an active member of First United Methodist Church and her Sunday school class. She was quick to volunteer for church activities, especially when she could cook and serve food. Many groups who met at the church enjoyed her service. Survivors include her children, Melissa Owen and husband Kirk of Allen, Jim Derington and wife Mandy of Spearman, Jan Cleek and husband Leslie of Panhandle, and Joel Derington and wife Gayle of Tulsa, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Sue was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill Derington on April 13, 1992; and a brother, James William Hart. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, PO Box 1981, Pampa, Texas 79066-1981. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 PM Monday, June 27, 2016, at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
