Mario Portillo, 78, of Pampa, died August 4, 2016 in Pampa. Vigil will be at 5:00 PM Sunday, August 7, 2016, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, and funeral mass will be 10:00 AM Monday, August 8, 2016, at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, with Rev. Francisco Perez, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Portillo was born June 25, 1938 in Camargo, Chihuahua, Mexico. He was reared in Mexico. He met Ramona Escobedo and they were married in 1959. She preceded him in death in 2015. Mario moved with his family to Pampa in 1971, where he lived and raised his family up until his passing. He worked at the meat processing plant in Pampa, and as a butcher for many years. Mario was a very religious man and was a devout Catholic. He was a committed and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include two sons, Felipe Portillo and wife Olivia, and Ernesto Portillo and wife Angie, all of Pampa; two daughters, Patricia Cabrales and husband Tello, and Hermalinda De La Torre and husband Gerardo, all of Pampa; two brothers, Blas Portillo of Juarez, Mexico, and Ramon Portillo of Pampa; six sisters, Gloria De Leon and Isabel Portillo, both of Pampa, Guadalupe Sanchez, Pura Perez and Sylvia Portillo, all of Roswell, New Mexico, and Rose Portillo of Juarez, Mexico; 19 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Mario was preceded in death by his parents, David and Ramona Portillo; three sons, David Angel Portillo, Jose Lucas Portillo and Mario Isidro Portillo; a daughter, Ramona Portillo; a granddaughter, Dora Kelly; and a sister, Maria Estrada. The family wishes to thank BSA Hospice of the Southwest for their loving care of Mario.
