Velva Grace Hopkins

Velva Grace Hopkins, 88, of Pampa, died August 15, 2016 in Amarillo. Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, August 19, 2016, at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ruby Moultrie, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Hopkins was born November 17, 1927 on the family farm in Roberts County. She loved being a country girl and cooking meals. She attended school in Miami, graduating from Miami High School as valedictorian, and attended West Texas State College in Canyon. During college, Velva met and married Troy Elton Hopkins in Miami. She enjoyed caring and raising her family to know Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in both Miami and Pampa. She was a former member of First United Methodist Church in Miami and was a current member of First United Methodist Church in Pampa. Velva helped and participated in church in many ways, including Vacation Bible School, taught and attended her adult Sunday school class. She especially enjoyed singing in the Chancel Choir. She enjoyed crafts, making quilts and china painting. Her roses were showcased in the National China Painter Magazine. Velva was preceded in death by her parents, Hardy and Grace McCuistion; and three brothers, Melvin McCuistion, Tommy Joe McCuistion, and Lewis Hardy McCuistion. Survivors include her three daughters, Charlotte Turowski and husband Steve of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Vickie Marlow and husband Jeff of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Debbie Brown and husband David of Pampa; three grandsons, Matt Turowski and wife Sarah, and Brett Turowski and wife Joy, all of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Adam Brown of Canyon; a granddaughter, Amanda Harrison and husband Matt of Milan, Illinois; and four great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, PO Box 1981, Pampa, Texas 79066-1981. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 PM Thursday, August 18, 2016, at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
