Scharlene Gattis

Scharlene Gattis, 74, of Pampa, died August 18, 2016 in Borger. Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, August 20, 2016, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, with Brother Andy McLatchy, officiating. Burial will follow in the Gattis Family Cemetery in Roberts County, under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Gattis was born February 7, 1942 in Lamar, Colorado. She was raised in Amarillo where she attended Amarillo schools, and graduated from Tascosa High School in 1960. She attended West Texas State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in speech therapy. Scharlene was a strong proponent of education, and because of her example, all her eight of her children earned a college degree. She married Richard Gattis on August 11, 1978 in the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple and they recently celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary. Scharlene and family moved to Pampa in 1979 where they have been active members of their church and community. Scharlene was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Audrey King; a sister, Shirley Dobbs; and her first husband, James Stevens. Survivors include her husband, Richard Gattis of the home; six daughters, Deborah Anderson and husband Mike of Flower Mound, Shelli Kubosumi and husband Kim of Mesquite, Kimberly Walker and husband Chuck of Lubbock, Sabra Newberry and husband James of Fayetteville, Georgia, Sarah Gattis-Tucker and husband Mark of Pampa, and Suzanne Gattis of Richardson; two sons, James Stevens and wife Kimberlee of Lubbock, and John Stevens and wife Sherry of Canton, Georgia; two brothers, Carol King and wife Mickey of Garland, and Ernest King and wife Janet of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 24 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Foundation, 1600 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, Texas 79106.
