Charles W. Matson, Jr., 79, of Perryton, died August 22, 2016 in Borger. Private family memorial services will be held at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa, with Rev. Rodney Weatherly, pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Pampa, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Matson was born July 7, 1937 in Sugar Land. He had been a longtime resident of Pampa, and was a 1956 graduate of Pampa High School. He married Janice Hay in August of 1958 in Pampa. Charles worked as a police officer in Pampa from 1960 until 1963, and then worked as a pumper for Kewanee Oil, Gulf Oil, and Chevron Oil, retiring in 1993. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Pampa, and was a member and past master of the Skellytown Masonic Lodge, and was a current member of the Pampa Masonic Lodge #966 AF&AM. Charles had been a resident of Perryton since 2015. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Ellen Matson; and a son-in-law, Greg Allen in 2011. Survivors include his wife, Janice Matson of the home; a daughter, Randi Ortega and husband Efren of Perryton; a son, Charles W. Matson, III and wife Christy of Perryton; three grandchildren, Derek Manross and wife Amanda and Maeghan Matson, all of Perryton, and Nathan Matson of Canyon; three great grandchildren, Caleb Manross, Chase Manross and Zachary Manross, all of Perryton; a brother, Randy Matson and wife Margaret of College Station; and a sister, Carla Patterson and husband Buddy of Sterling, Colorado.
