Homer Max Gibson, 94, a longtime resident of Pampa, passed away on September 9, 2016 in McKinney. Services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa, with Rev. Ruby Moultrie, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Pampa, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Gibson was born on September 30, 1921 in Aubrey, Arkansas to James Scott Gibson and Inez (Robinson) Gibson. Max served in the Coast Guard during World War II, seeing action in the Mariannas and Saipan. On returning from the war, he married Grace Waggoner and moved to Pampa where he worked as a body man until his retirement. Max loved life. He enjoyed playing golf, country and western dancing, gardening and visiting with family and friends. Because of declining health, he moved to McKinney in 2008 to live with his son Gary and wife April. There he continued to enjoy life, appreciating nature, watching sports and greeting every day with a song. He was a gentle and wise soul who will be greatly missed. He is survived by his son, Gary Gibson and wife April of McKinney; daughter, Gail Ansell of Henderson, Nevada; grandson, Doug Ansell of Las Vegas, Nevada; great granddaughter, Eva Ansell of Las Vegas ; brother, Larry Gibson and wife Nancy of Florida; brother-in- law and sister-in-law, Fred and Lynda Martin of Pampa and many friends. Max was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Grace, brothers, Jimmy Gibson and Nelson Gibson, sisters, Gladys Hughes, Sue Finnell, Charlotte Thomas and Billy Jean Shaw, and close friend, Fern Ritter.
