Walter Roy Howell, 73, of Pampa, passed away on October 17, 2016. Services will be 2:00 PM Friday, October 21, 2016, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, with Bishop Bryan Guymon officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Howell was born November 28, 1942 in Silver City, New Mexico to Benjamin and Sadie (Amberson) Howell. He grew up and lived in El Paso, where he worked in banking for many years. Walter also lived and was a vice president of banks in Espanola, New Mexico and Socorro, New Mexico. Later in life, he moved to Pampa where he worked for and retired from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in 2008. Walter married Sherry Ridgeway on February 13, 1965 in El Paso. Walter was a very loving and caring person. He loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening and yardwork; and also enjoyed travelling, riding motorcycles and camping. Walter was an active member in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and had many friends there. He will be missed by all who had the privilege to have known him. Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Sherry (Ridgeway) Howell; two sons, Darrell Howell and wife Raylene of Socorro, New Mexico, and Wes Howell of Pampa, Texas; a sister, Roberta McKelvy and husband John of Phoenix, Arizona; a grandson, Dustin Lester and wife Mattia of Tacoma, Washington; and a granddaughter, Brittany Lester of Exeter, Nebraska.
