Kenneth Troy “Pops” Purvis, 70, died October 31, 2016 in Lefors. Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, November 4, 2016, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa, with Gene Gee, Church of Christ minister, officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Heights Cemetery in Lefors, with military honors courtesy U. S. Army, Fort Hood, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Purvis on July 15, 1946 in Depew, Oklahoma to Hughie and LaWanda Purvis. He was reared in Depew, and after high school he was drafted into the U. S. Army, serving three tours in Vietnam and receiving a Purple Heart. After his service, he moved to the Gray County area where he had lived up until the time of his death. He worked in the oilfield, was a truck driver and then worked for the City of Lefors as the City Superintendent. Kenneth married Karen Handy on July 5, 2010 in Lefors. He was a volunteer with the fire department, serving as fire Marshall. He always stayed busy, and his family referred to him as their “piddler.” Kenneth also liked the outdoors where he enjoyed camping and fishing. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Karen Purvis of the home; four sons, Kenny Purvis of Stinnett, Timothy Purvis of Arizona, Shayne Hendrickson and wife Carmen of Lefors, and Sonny Purvis and wife Thelma of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; five daughters, Sherry Bowman of Stroud, Oklahoma, LeaNan Sparks and Shayna Purvis, both of Pampa, Kenya Harris and husband Brandon of Okemah, Oklahoma, and Jamie Klaus and husband Klint of Lefors; two sisters, Sharon Poore of Cisco, and Madeline Titus of Bristow, Oklahoma; 19 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane Purvis; his parents, Hughie and LaWanda Purvis; a son, Mark Evrage; one brother and one sister.
