Irene Black

Irene Black, 88, of Pampa, died November 10, 2016 in Amarillo. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, November 14, 2016, at Memory Gardens Cemetery, with Pastor Joel Osborne of Fellowship Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Black was born July 7, 1928 in Fulbright to Bruce and Alice Evans. She married J. C. Chennault in 1946 in Paris, Texas. She had been a resident of Pampa since June of 1956. Irene worked as a nurse at Worley Hospital for four years. She was a checker at S & J Mart and Frank’s Foods. She worked at Highland General Hospital and also worked at Pampa Regional Medical Center for ten years as a dietary specialist. She later married Buster Black in 1984, and he preceded her in death in 1991. Irene was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. She loved quilting, cooking and crafts. Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Elsheimer and husband Philip, and Sheelah Chennault and husband Russ Wilson, all of Pampa; two sons, Terry Chennault of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and Gaines Chennault of Pampa; two sisters, Lillian Edmonson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Edna Talley of Paris, Texas; a brother, Edward Evans and wife Ruby of Amarillo; 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and church family; and special family friend, Ron Palermo of Caldwell, Idaho. Memorials may be made to Pampa Senior Citizens, PO Box 475, Pampa, Texas 79066-0475.
