Wilma Lee Melear, 85, of Amarillo and formerly of Pampa, died December 29, 2016 in Amarillo. Services will be 2:00 PM Monday, January 2, 2017, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa, with Rev. Jeff Messer, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Pampa, under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mrs. Melear was born April 2, 1931 in Red Oak, Oklahoma. She had been a resident of Pampa from 1935 until moving to Amarillo in 2008. She married Douglas Lee Melear, Sr., on May 29, 1949 in Shamrock. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1989. She was a member of the Ladies Moose Lodge. Wilma was a Baptist. She worked as the manager at Pak-a-Burger in Pampa for 27 years, and then worked for Gray County Latch Key for 10 years. Survivors include two daughters, Gwen Manning and Sonja McCauley, both of Amarillo; a son, Douglas Lee Melear, Jr. and wife Sue of Jasper; a sister, Colleen Reck of Amarillo; a brother, Dan Mathus of Tyler; seven grandchildren, Bryan Ellis and wife Emily of The Woodlands, Erica Leathers and husband Bret and Ashley McCoy and husband Greg, all of Amarillo, Andrea Purcell and husband Stephen of Katy, Justin Melear and wife Carrie of Dam B, Bartley Melear of Ensenada, and Shely Pickett and husband Hiram of Jasper; and 13 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Lucy Mathus; a sister, Lucille Bond; a brother, Leo Mathus; and two sons, Mike Melear and Gaylon Melear.
