Carolyn Sue Hopkins

Carolyn Sue Hopkins, 74, of Pampa, died January 22, 2017 in Pampa. Memorial services will be 6:00 PM Thursday, January 26, 2017, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Rev. Patti Ford, pastor of Grace Fellowship Church of Borger, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Hopkins was born October 11, 1942 in Wewoka, Oklahoma. She had been a longtime resident of Pampa, moving from Borger. She was the manager of Mrs. Baird’s Thrift Store for over 20 years, retiring in 2003. Carolyn was a former member of Central Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school. Carolyn loved bowling, watching The Voice, enjoyed dancing, and was an avid reader, but her greatest joy was her grandchildren. She always put others before herself and will be dearly missed. Survivors include four daughters, Kim McKnight and husband Joey of Houston, Andrea Baker and husband Benny of Panhandle, Carmen Hopkins of Amarillo, and Rene Stegall of Borger; two brothers, Leroy Powell and wife Janet of Borger, and Jim Powell and wife Diane of Midland; six grandchildren, Zachary McKnight and wife Sarah of Houston, Kassidy Wagner and husband Christopher of Edmond, Oklahoma, Skylar Bowers of Amarillo, Baylee Baker of Canyon, Bree Baker and Tristyn Hopkins, both of Panhandle; and many nieces and nephews. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Farstean Powell; a sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Jacky Cowan; a grandson, Nicholas Hopkins; and her best friend, Donna Davis. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, Tennessee 38101-9908.
