Leland Edward “Ed” Harris, 93, of Pampa, died February 7, 2017 in Pampa. Services will be 2:00 PM Friday, February 10, 2017, at Central Baptist Church, with Rev. Norman Rushing pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Harris was born November 9, 1923 in Wilburton, Oklahoma. He grew up and attended schools in Wewoka, Oklahoma. During his senior year in high school, Ed enlisted in the U. S. Navy, proudly serving during World War II on the USS Swirve and the USS Surfbird as a minesweeper in the European and Pacific Theatres. After his discharge, Ed returned to Oklahoma where he wed his hometown sweetheart, Kay Shipley, on September 7, 1946 in Tulsa. In 1957, Ed and his family moved to Pampa where he went to work for Schlumberger, and later worked for Celanese Corporation for 26 years, retiring in 1986. He was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church and he and his wife enjoyed singing in the Central Baptist Senior Adult Choir. Ed and Kay loved to travel and go camping. After retirement, they spent a lot of time in the Colorado Mountains with their beloved dog, Molly. Ed was a talented man who enjoyed working with his hands. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and he was a patriotic man who loved his country. Survivors include his wife, Kay Harris of the home; two daughters, Debbie Francis and husband Richard of Plainview, and Kim Harris of Amarillo; a brother, Wayne Harris of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; a sister, Lila Parnell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; a grandson, Tabor Francis and wife Leslie of Lubbock; a granddaughter, Leanna Pollard and husband Jody of South Lake; two great grandsons, Hudson Pollard and Lawson Pollard, both of South Lake. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Lola Farrell Harris. Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church, 513 E. Francis, Pampa, Texas 79065.
