Memorial services will be held Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Lane Baptist Church in Lane, OK. Maxine was born June, 20, 1934, in Talala, Oklahoma to Daniel Noel and Lillie Capehart Clemmens. The family came from humble beginnings. "The Clemmens all had a good sense of humor and could find fun in the simple things. They loved God and their families." (from the Clemmens Family Cookbook that she helped write) Four children were born to this union, but only one, Maxine, survived to adulthood. Maxine’s mother, Lillie, died in a tornado when Maxine was six years of age. Maxine graduated from Talala High School. She married Chester “Check” Nunn, September 9, 1960, at the house he built for her at the edge of White Deer. They had two children Linda Kay and Sheri Lee. Maxine taught Sunday school at the Baptist Church in White Deer teaching those mischievous boys that she loved and thought were angels. Chester and Maxine moved to Amarillo at his retirement. Chester preceded her in death on April 1, 1999. Maxine received an Associate Degree in Nutrition and one in Interior Design from Amarillo College and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics from Panhandle State University, Goodwell, Oklahoma. She also graduated from the School of Massage Therapy in Amarillo and was a certified counselor through the American Association of Christian Counselors. Maxine belonged to the South Georgia Baptist Church and was active in Bible studies and prayer groups in her home. She was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Sunshiner’s, in which she planned activities for seniors. She made mission trips to Jamaica and Brazil through church groups, and Connecticut to support Americorp. Maxine moved to Lane, Oklahoma, March, 2012. She lived near her daughter, Sheri, and was an active member of Lane Baptist Church. She considered this her happy retirement "mountain home" and enjoyed time with Sheri, Ted and Matthew. As "Grandma", she enthusiastically cheered at many grandchildren's and great grandchildren's sporting events across the Texas Panhandle and Eastern Oklahoma. She loved time with family and friends, especially hosting tea parties and her Annual Cousins Christmas Dinners, as well as attending the annual Clemmens Reunions at Talala, Oklahoma. Maxine was also preceded in death by her parents, Daniel Noel and Lillie Capehart Clemmens.
