Mavis I. McDowell

Mavis I. McDowell, 83, of Pampa, died February 27, 2017 in Pampa. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Fairview Cemetery, with Rev. Jim Sinyard, pastor of the Carpenter’s Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. McDowell was born September 27, 1933 in Caney, Kansas. She had been a resident of Pampa most of her life. She married Don McDowell on May 12, 1953 in Clayton, New Mexico. He preceded her in death on February 14, 1989. Mavis worked for Tralee Crisis Center for 17 years, retiring in 2010. She was a Baptist. She enjoyed ironing, crocheting and her cats. Mavis loved gardening with Don and canning foods. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Caswell and Debbie Shomaker and husband Tom, all of Pampa; three grandchildren, Lezlea Wood and husband Daniel, Lorie Caswell, Tommy Shomaker and fiancée Mayce, six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Mavis was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosetta Peterson and Twila Arellano. Memorials may be made to Carpenter’s Church, PO Box 1476, Pampa, Texas 79065.
