Joy Claudine “Deano” Shipley, 78, of Pampa, died March 6, 2017 in Pampa. Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Cornerstone Baptist Church, with Pastor Chadd Lemaster of New Life Baptist Church in Garnett, Kansas, and Rev. Albert Maggard, pastor of First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Pampa, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Shipley was born October 9, 1938 in Pampa at the Worley Hospital to Irene and Floyd McCoy. She married Thomas Richard “Dick” Shipley in August of 1957. They owned and operated Dick’s Skelly Service Station for approximately 25 years. They opened Deano’s Café in Skellytown in 1972. Deano was a member of the Community Church of Skellytown for many years. Most recently, she was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Pampa. She enjoyed coaching her daughter’s softball teams. She liked to play cards, board games, the piano, and working crossword puzzles. Deano played competitive volleyball and softball when she was into her 40’s. She had a myna bird that she taught to talk and whistle. Deano was preceded in death by her parents, Irene and Floyd McCoy; her husband Dick Shipley; two brothers, Jerry McCoy and James McCoy; great-granddaughter, Jessina; son-in-law, Dr. Joseph Mayhew; sister-in-law, Cecilia Hopper; and two brothers-in-law, Louis Dean Karlin and Johnny Sloan. Survivors include her daughter, Caprice “Cappie” Mayhew of Pampa; four grandchildren, Joshua Mayhew of Pampa, Jenifer Gilchrist and husband Shawn of Leesburg, Virginia, Jamie Compson and husband Nick of Syracuse, New York, and Jordan Mayhew of Lynchburg, Virginia; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce Noble and husband Ethan of Lubbock, and Yvonne Karlin of Amarillo; three sisters-in-law, Saundra McCoy of Amarillo, Laura Sloan of Guymon, Oklahoma, and Tammy Hastings and husband Ed of San Antonio. The family offers a special thanks to Kory, Stacy, Gail and Sue with Interim Healthcare and also friends Sherri, Doris, Verna and Betty for their loving care of Deano.
