John E. Coburn, 59, of Pampa, passed away April 4, 2017 in Pampa. A celebration of life memorial service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Lifeway Christian Center in Guymon, Oklahoma, with Pastor Dallas McGlasson, senior pastor, officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Coburn was born February 9, 1958 in Redding, California to Edmond J. and Archie Mae Coburn. He began his journey in his beloved mountains of northern California, leaving at the age of 9 and moving to Texline, where he grew up and attended school. He returned to Redding to fight fires as a smoke jumper for several years. He came back to Texas where he farmed and hauled hay, which led him to a career with Asplundh Tree Services. During this time he met his wife of 17 years, Terry Coburn and her wonderful family…our family! He retired from Asplundh after he was disabled from an on-the-job accident. John spent his summers with his brother, Butch, family fishing, hunting wild boars and flying squirrels and riding 4-wheelers in the mountains, or camping and fishing with his stepsons, or hunting prairie dogs with his beautiful granddaughter, Jazmine. He loved big family dinners, cook-outs and holidays. John never met a stranger. He loved his church and music of all different kinds. The family extends a very special thank you to the nurses and caregivers of Interim Hospice Home Health for their love and care of John, and to his niece Stacy Burnett for never leaving his side while on hospice. He was loved and he will be missed by all. Rest peacefully in Heaven, John, with God, your mom and dad, poles and toes in the water, watching the eagles soar. Survivors include his wife, Terry Coburn of the home; his daughter, Carina Gonzalez and husband Sergio of Guymon, Oklahoma; a stepdaughter, Cathie Rivera and husband Miguel of Guymon, Oklahoma; two stepsons, Wesley McMasters and wife Alisha of Texline, and Bill “Willie” McMasters and wife Nicole of Bunker Hill, Indiana; his brother, Butch Coburn of Cottonwood, California; two sisters, Peggy Coburn Ward and Atha Burnett, both of Pampa; two half-sisters, Tootie Swift and Alta Horn, both of Taft, California; his granddaughter, Jazmine, and several other grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents.
