Doris June Coberley, 98, of Pampa, died April 5, 2017 in Amarillo. Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Mike Watson, pastor of Hobart Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Doris was born May 27, 1918 on the family ranch in Lipscomb County to Harry and Erma Fleming. She attended a school that was built on the ranch and her Aunt Christine was her teacher. Doris grew up during the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl. She remembered Black Sunday. She graduated from Follett High School in 1937. Doris attended General Hospital Nursing School in Enid, Oklahoma in 1941. She worked for the hospital in Beaver, Oklahoma. While in Beaver, she met Lelan Coberley and they were married on January 14, 1945. They had two sons, Chancie and Gary. The family later moved to Pampa and Doris went to work for Highland General Hospital until her retirement. She was a founding member of Hobart Baptist Church. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lelan; a brother, Dale Fleming; a sister, Avis Galyen; and a grandson, Chris Coberley. Survivors include her two sons, Chancie Coberley and wife Ann of Canyon, and Gary Coberley and wife Marcia of Amarillo; sister-in-law, June Fleming of Oklahoma; six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, one great-great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
