Billy Ray Free, 81, of Pampa, died Saturday, May 13, 2017 in Pampa.Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Byron Williamson, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Billy Ray was born August 21, 1935 in Turkey, Texas to Oscar and Ruby Free. He was raised and attended school in Shamrock. He married Brunetta Maylene Reynolds on December 6, 1954 in Sayre, Oklahoma and they soon settled in Pampa. Billy Ray and Maylene had 4 children and raised them in Pampa. Billy Ray worked his entire career in the oil and gas industry in various positions. He retired in 2000 as a supervisor for Chesapeake Energy. In his spare time, Billy Ray enjoyed attending Everyman's Bible Class at the First Baptist Church, his membership in the Masonic Lodge and watching westerns and boxing matches on TV. Billy Ray was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Everett, of Pampa. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Maylene of Pampa; two sons, Coy Free and Gary Free and wife Kathy, all of Pampa; two daughters, Lynn Miller and husband Marland of Pampa, and Sherri Smith and husband Blane of Cedar Park; a sister Beatrice of Lefors; seven grandchildren, one step grandchild and nine great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
