Phyllis Ruth Scheig Curtis, 85, of Amarillo, formerly of Pampa, died in Amarillo on Wednesday, May 24, 2017. Memorial services will be held at 10am on Tuesday, May 30th at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Amarillo, officiated by The Rt. Reverend Sam B. Hulsey of Fort Worth, and Rev. Robert Pace, rector. Inurnment services will be held at 3pm on Tuesday, May 30th at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Pampa, officiated by Rev. Mark Lang, rector. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Phyllis was born in Pampa on August 11, 1931 to Fritz Earle Scheig and Alice Rittenhouse Scheig. Before moving to Amarillo in 1998, she was a lifelong resident of Pampa, where she married Jackie Tom Curtis on April 15, 1950. He preceded her in death on October 22, 1995. Phyllis was a loving and dedicated mother, sister, friend, grandmother, and great-grandmother, as well as a masterful and generous cook. She was an active and community oriented member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Amarillo and St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Pampa. She was also a member of Daughter of the Kings, Blackbelt Bible Study, and Tuesday Bible Study, all at St. Andrews Episcopal Church. For many years, she volunteered at the Pampa Shelter Workshop in Pampa and was a member of the Junior Service League. Survivors include two daughters, Terry Wilemon of Lakeway, and Ellen Brister and husband Mike of Amarillo; two sons, Joe Curtis and wife Gayle of Pampa, and Jack T. Curtis, Jr. and wife Sissy of Horseshoe Bay; a brother, Edward Scheig and wife Glenda of Houston; 15 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Phyllis was also preceded in death by her parents and, in 1993, a brother, Richard Scheig. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 1601 S.
