Evelyn Maye Morehead Johnson, 92, of Pampa, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 6, 2017 in her home. She was a loving and amazing wife, mother and grandmother. Services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, June 10, 2017 at First Baptist Church, with Rev. Byron Williamson, pastor, and Rev. Barry Owens, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Johnson was born August 4, 1924 in Hemphill County to John Olen and Phoebe Moore Morehead. She was a 1940 graduate of Pampa High School. Evelyn married H. J. Johnson in September of 1946. He preceded her in death in July of 2000. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lindsey Johnson; and three sisters, Helen Harris, Mildred Scott and Faye Benton. Evelyn was a member of First Baptist Church for 75 years where she taught Sunday school to 4-year-olds for 40 years. She was an administrative assistant for Cabot Corporation for 35 years, retiring in 1980. In 1985, she was named “Volunteer of the Year” by Cabot. She was active in the Pampa United Way where she served as president and a member of the board of directors in 1986-1987. Evelyn served on the executive council for Adobe Walls Boy Scouts from 1980-1984. She served as director of the Genesis House for 15 years and the Pampa Community Concert for 25 years. Evelyn was an excellent hostess and enjoyed entertaining and cooking for her family and friends. Over the years, she collected and compiled many recipes which she organized and gifted to her family and friends. She is survived by her four children, Dr. Carletta Taylor and husband Dr. Max Taylor of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mary Beth Rafferty of Frisco, Dr. Jay Johnson and wife Linda, and Janis Spearman and husband Jay, all of Pampa; a brother, John Morehead of Lubbock; eight grandchildren, Elana Roberts and husband Tony of Wilmington, North Carolina, Aaron Kassover and wife Stacy of Tokyo, Japan, Shay Geyer and husband Brian of Frisco, Laura Allen and husband Cullen of Pampa, Anna Jones and husband Adam of Midland, Jared Spearman and wife Lindsay of Katy, Jordan Spearman and wife Amanda of Austin, and Jaclyn Street and husband Cody of Tulia; 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Evelyn’s family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers who took care of her for the last three years.
