Bernardino Hernandez, 77, of Pampa, died June 7, 2017 in Pampa. Services will be 3:00 PM Saturday, June 10, 2017, at First Assembly of God, with Rev. Pablo Nieto, missionary, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Rev. Hernandez was born May 20, 1940 in Gomez Palacio, Durango, Mexico. He was a 2nd Sargent in the Mexican Army. He graduated from seminary in Torreon, Coahuguila, Mexico and started Iglesia Bautista Monte Horeb in Juarez, Mexico. He married Raquel Romero on February 24, 1966. Rev. Hernandez moved to Stanton in 1975 where he pastored Iglesia Bautista Mexicana for three years. He moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico, and pastored at First Spanish Baptist Church for three years. He then moved to Dexter, New Mexico where he pastored Primera Iglesia Bautista for 14 years, and then pastored at Muleshoe Primera Iglesia Bautista for two years. He finished his pastorate with Primera Iglesia Bautista in Petersburg, retiring after 21 years. Survivors include his wife Raquel R. Hernandez of the home; three daughters, Cristina Avila and husband Martin of Pampa, Raquel A. Sanchez and husband Erby of Midland, and Gloria Toth of Dallas; three sons, Nathaniel Hernandez and wife Jamie of St. Louis, Missouri, Angel O. Hernandez and wife LaRaye of Dublin, and Joel Romero of Raleigh, North Carolina; two sisters, Tomasa Chappa and Esperanza Rodriguez, both of Juarez, Mexico; 26 grandchildren, Tony, Sonia, Abraham, Ruth, Martin, Jr., Miriam, Aron, Moses, Jeremiah, Dalila, Marcos, Meg, Adam, Madelyn, Alexis, Andrew, Abby, Aaron, Cheyanne, Bobby, Christian, Griffin, Kylie, Chi, Lexi and Jonah; and 23 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, three sisters, and a grandson, Miguel. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice. Rev. Hernandez’ body will lie in state at First Assembly of God beginning 9:00 AM Friday, June 9, 2017.
