Alice Mae Guthrie Lee

Alice Mae Guthrie Lee, 89, passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2018 in Canyon, TX.

Services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday December 15, 2018 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Elder James Baker, pastor of the Borger Primitive Baptist Church and Elder Gail Faries, pastor of the Levelland Primitive Baptist Church officiating. Entombment will follow in Memory Gardens Mausoleum under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.

Alice was born on February 22, 1929 on a farm near Littlefield, TX to J.P. “Jerry” and Katherine (Phipps) Guthrie. After her mother was stricken with Tuberculosis, she soon moved with her family to another farm near Ancho, NM.  In the 1940’s they moved to another farm near Quail, TX where Alice graduated from Quail High School. She married Bill Lee on September 18, 1950 in Quail, TX.  He preceded her in death in 2008.  Alice had been a resident of Pampa since 1952 and worked at Marie Foundations, was a foster parent for the state of Texas, and was a baby sitter for many children for several years. She had been a faithful member of the Perryton Primitive Baptist Church for many years and moved her membership to the Borger Primitive Baptist Church in 2015 when her health started failing.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Lee and wife Marilyn, and David Lee and wife Teresa, all of Pampa; two daughters, Brenda Swindell and husband Larry of Amarillo, and Dee Ann Strickland and husband Gil of Pampa; two brothers: Dan Guthrie of Wellington and Jerry Guthrie of Guymon, OK; ten grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Frank Guthrie; a sister, Margaret James; and a grandson, Kyle Strickland.

The family requests memorials be to the Borger Primitive Baptist Church, 608 Missouri Street, Borger, TX  79007.

We also wish to thank Marla and all the caregivers at Right at Home for their loving care of Alice during the last few months of her life.

Visitation will be from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM Friday December 14, 2018 at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
