Barbara Alexander, 78, of Pampa, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at her home.Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, October 7, 2017 in Miami Cemetery with Pastor Billy Holland of Mobeetie United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Barbara was born on January 4, 1939 in Bonham, TX to Thelma and Kenneth Hinkle. She lived her early years in Bonham, later the family moved to Littlefield and Barbara graduated from Littlefield High School as their Salutatorian. After graduation, she enrolled at West Texas State University, graduating with a Bachelors of Education. During college she met George Alexander and they wed on May 31, 1960 in Phoenix, Arizona. Barbara worked as an educator for many years in Tulia, Littlefield, Albuquerque and Burkburnett. In 1992 Barbara and George retired to Miami, TX. George preceded her in death in 1995. In 2010 Barbara moved to live with her daughter and son-in-law in Pampa, TX. Barbara was an active member of First Christian Church of Miami where she participated in many capacities; serving on the board and as Sunday School Superintendent. Barbara was a civic minded person who served on various boards and committees. She volunteered for many years with Boy Scouts of America, ATPE as the State President, and the Chamber of Commerce of Miami, serving on the board and as president, and many other organizations. Barbara will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was also preceded in death by her parents and by a niece, Kellye Camp. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Alexander and wife Dawn of Lake Tahoe, CA and David Alexander and wife Angela of Amarillo, TX; by her daughter, Renee Alexander-Tyler and husband Jonathan of the home; by her sister, Lucy Custard and husband Ivan “Buzz” of Elephant Butte, NM; by her five granddaughters, Laci Alexander, Tessa Alexander, Tracy Alexander, Amanda Alexander, Olivia Tyler-Roberts and husband Chanceton; her five grandsons, Benjamin Tyler and wife Shayla, Brad Alexander, Daniel Alexander, Alex Furlong and Dustin Furlong; her nine great-grandchildren; and her two nieces, Shellye Hall and Hollye Custard.
