Barbara Shearer, 89, of Amarillo, formerly of Pampa, passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2021 in Amarillo.
Graveside services will be 10:00 AM, Monday, November 15, 2021 at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Rodney Weatherly, pastor at Cornerstone Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Barbara was born on June 13, 1932 in Neptune City, New Jersey to Jay and Fay Podell. She lived in New Jersey all through high school, before moving to Texas, where she met Ken Shearer. They were married on July 2, 1955. He passed away on December 28, 2011. Barbara and Ken moved to Pampa in 1964, where she worked as a bookkeeper at Anthony's. She attended Cornerstone Baptist Church. Barbara enjoyed reading, sewing, and spending time with her friends and family. She loved to make people happy and was always thinking of kind ways to make them smile. She was a sweet, genuine woman that will remembered for all the ways she made a difference in the lives of her friends and family.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and 3 siblings, Alfred Podell, Joan Zuydwegt, and Wayne Podell.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra Shearer of Centennial, Colorado; her brother, Mel Podell of Fort Worth; her sister-in-law Frances Walters of Clinton, Mississippi; her brother-in-law, Billy Shearer of Clinton, Mississippi; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 632008, Houston, Texas, 77263.
