Bernice Maddox, 96, of Pampa, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 2, 2017 in Cleburne. Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, October 7, 2017, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Rev. Ruby Moultrie, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Maddox was born in Vandervoort, Arkansas on July 23, 1921, to Phillip and Jennie Jackson. Her family moved from Arkansas to Oklahoma and then to the Texas Panhandle. Bernice graduated from Pampa High School and later married Raymond Maddox on January 11, 1945 at the Naval Air Station in Shelton, Washington. She and Raymond made their home 17 miles south of Pampa and enjoyed 55 years of marriage, farming and ranching together. She loved the panhandle, her family, and her farm and ranch life. She was an active member of the Pampa First Christian Church for more than 50 years. Bernice, "Manga" as she was known to her family, was very proud of her children and grandchildren, always making trips to visit and being a part of their activities. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Maddox; parents, Phillip and Jennie Jackson; sister, Joyceln Jackson; and grandson, Brian Conrad and his family. She is survived by her son, Stephen Maddox and wife Rosellin; her daughter, Sharon Conrad and husband Mike; her grandchildren: Stephanie Fox and husband Scott, Jennifer Belz and husband David, and Kimberly Conrad; and her great grandchildren: Katie Brack and husband Andy, Amanda Pattillo, John Fox, Ellin "Maddie" Belz, Julia Belz, and Robin Doan. Memorials may be made to any Panhandle charity.
