Betty Jean McGrew Fletcher

Betty Jean McGrew Fletcher, 89, of Pampa passed away on Monday, January 21, 2019 in Pampa.

Services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Mary Ellen & Harvester Church of Christ with Keith Feerer, minister and Glen Walton, Church of Christ minister, officiating. Burial will be 12:00 PM Friday, January 25, 2019 in Dodd City Cemetery in Dodd City. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Fletcher was born October 25, 1929 in Beaumont to Raymond and Esma McGrew. She graduated from South Park High School in Beaumont and attended Lamar University and graduated from Sam Houston State University. Betty married Don Fletcher on March 10, 1949 in Huntsville, he preceded her in death on February 15, 2014. In the 1960’s and 70’s she taught art at Pampa Jr. High School and has been a long-time member of Mary Ellen & Harvester Church of Christ. Betty was a wonderful artist in many ways which include painting, drawing, wearable art such as jewelry and decorated jackets. She was a wonderful cook and seamstress. Betty was a member of the Pampa Art Club and enjoyed volunteering for Meals on Wheels. After she retired, she enjoyed spending time in her flower garden. Over the years she and Don were generous contributors to High Plains Children’s Home, Clarendon College, Lubbock Christian University, foreign missionary programs, and Emergency Services Foundation of Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family would be remiss without mentioning her 3 loving and dedicated caregivers, Tonya Garza, Naomi Blackburn, and Donna Pettit. They made life much easier for Betty. The family referred to them as “Betty’s Angels”.

Survivors include her 5 children, Reagan Fletcher of Dodd City, Deborah Fletcher Stout and husband Don of Honey Grove, Niki Fletcher Magdelinic of Cape Coral, Florida, Alan Fletcher and wife Parla of Elk City, Oklahoma, and Jeff Fletcher and wife Karen of Lubbock; sister, Ann Richardson of Houston; brother, Jim McGrew of Conroe; 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall immediately following the service.
