Betty was born November 2, 1926 in Sedan, Kansas to Oscar O. and Rachel E. Jones. Betty’s family moved to Gray county in the summer of 1930, when Mr. Jones came to operate a grocery store for his brother. The Jones Grocery was located on the Mel Davis lease, five miles south of Pampa. Two years later the store was sold, and Mr. Jones managed the Jones Grocery, located at 438 N. Starkweather. The family had made their home at 724 E. Francis.
Betty graduated from Pampa High School in 1945. Her first job was working for the LaNora Theatre selling tickets at the age of 15. After high school her sister, Ida Mae Boland, recommended that Arthur Teed should hire her as his secretary. She worked for Smith, Teed, Wade & Waters, as a legal secretary, for approximately twenty years. Her remarkable memory and exceptional secretarial skills made her a valuable asset. She still typed on her manual typewriter until her stroke at the age of 91.
Betty married Harold D. Hink on February 24, 1951. They were married 54 years before he passed away on March 3, 2005. They were long-time members of First United Methodist Church and supported the ministries of the church. They had one son, Jere D. Hink and a grandson, Aaron Hink. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Ida Mae Boland.
Survivors include her son and grandson; her brother, Clarence Jones and wife Wanda of Laverne, Oklahoma; 2 nephews and many friends.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be sent to Pampa Senior Citizens, PO Box 475, Pampa, Texas 79066.
