Betty Mackie, 91, of Amarillo and formerly of Pampa, passed away on December 1, 2022, in Amarillo.
Services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 3, 2022, at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Bruce Propst, a family friend, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM, Friday at the funeral home.
Betty Mackie was born March 1, 1931, in Pampa, Texas to Jess Roosevelt Hilburn and Gladys Guess Hilburn. She married Joe Edd Mackie on August 12, 1950, after being high school sweethearts. Joe Edd preceded her in death due to a motorcycle accident on May 25, 1980.
Betty worked as a driver’s license clerk for 17 years along with helping run several businesses. Joe Edd and her owned A-1 Automotive and Pampa Harley Davidson. After Joe Edd passed away, she moved to McLean and worked as the Business Office Manager for several years. After that, she lived in Port Arthur, Cedar Park, Leander, and several other suburbs of Austin before finally coming back to her 50th high school class reunion and finding her companion of 13 years, Paul Musgrave, that stood by her side until the very end.
Preceding her in death are husband, Joe Edd Mackie; mother and father, Jess Roosevelt and Gladys Mae Hilburn; sisters, Wanda Roenfeldt, Margie Phillips; and granddaughter, Sarah Marie Baxter.
Survivors are son, Jerry Don and Nancy Mackie of Canyon; two daughters, Brenda & Floyd Baxter, Jr., of Pampa, Tina and Bill Thomas of Forney; companion, Paul Musgrave of Amarillo; grandchildren, Cindy and Doyle Lee of Leander, Jason and Sharon Thomas of Pampa, Jeremy and Jayme Thomas of Forney, Amber and Billy Smith of Childress, Justin and Allison Fortner of White Settlement, Brandon and Lauren Baxter of Pampa, Jeffrey and Malicia Fortner of Pampa, Katrina Schruber of Houston, Jennifer and Rudy Lozano of Frisco, Denise and Jeffrey Browning of Bryson, Amber and Brian Weaver of Andrews; great-grandchildren, Dustin Lee, Kaela Lee, Christopher Duree, Kristin Duree, Ashlynn Thomas, Ava Thomas, Brayden Thomas, Bentley Thomas, Carter Jistel, Ashlynn Grace Smith, Jonah Smith, Dalton Fortner, Jakob Fortner, Eden Fortner, Xaiver Fortner, Zander Fortner, Cannon Fortner, Malichi Fortner, Daimyan Baxter, Alec Cortez, Maxwell Neff, Malee Williams, Addyson Lozano, Jackson Lozano, Katie Lozano, Ethan Lozano, Greyson Schruber, Hudson Schruber, Jacob Singleton, Ashlyn Walker, Braydon Weaver; three great great-grandchildren, Harlow Duree, Lynox Rodriguez, Emmersyn Singleton.
