Betty Lou Harris Schaffer

Betty Lou Harris Schaffer, 89, of Pampa, died September 5, 2018 in Pampa. Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, September 8, 2018, at First Baptist Church, with Rev. Byron Williamson, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Jericho Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Schaffer was born October 26, 1928 in Skellytown to Guy and Olive Brothers Harris. She attended Pampa schools and was a 1947 graduate of Pampa High School. She married James Earl Schaffer on July 24, 1948 in Panhandle. He preceded her in death on May 18, 2015. Betty was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, where she earned numerous awards including Woman of the Year. She dearly loved her grandchildren and her dog Nick, and she was an avid Texas Rangers fan. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Interim Healthcare for their wonderful care of Betty. Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Schaffer Guess and husband Mike, and Jamilou Schaffer Williams and husband Marc “Tiny,” all of Pampa; a son, Wesley K. Schaffer and wife Gretchen of Pampa; four grandchildren, Jason H. Garren and wife Lissa and Misty Adams, all of Amarillo, Jessica Light and husband Jeremy of Creswell, Oregon, Deawn Sims and husband Bryan of Pampa, three step grandchildren, Haleigh Dudley, J. W. Dudley, and Ella Dudley, all of Pampa; eleven great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Peggy Beckham of Pampa, and Josie Schaffer of Amarillo; a brother-in-law, Bill Musser of Yuma, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Catherine Langford. The family will receive friends at 2301 Evergreen in Pampa.
