Betty Joyce Stowers

Betty Joyce Stowers, 89, of Pampa, went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 29, 2024 in Amarillo.

Private family graveside will be at a later date. Per Betty’s wishes, she will be buried in Union Hatchett Cemetery near Bessie, Oklahoma next to her husband. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Betty was born January 16, 1935 in Clinton, Oklahoma to Alva E. and Ruby Jones. Born at home she weighed only one and one-half pounds. Betty had a large family; she was the fifth child of 18 siblings. She attended school in Clinton. Betty married the love of her life Vernon Thomas Stowers and they celebrated 60 years of marriage together. He preceded her in death. Upon discharge from the Air Force, Betty and Vernon lived in several West Texas cities with his work in the oil fields but made their home mostly in Borger and Pampa, Texas. They spent their life making a living in the oil and gas industry. Betty and Vernon were members of a travel club where they traveled many miles and made many wonderful friends. 

At a young age, Betty accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and continued to follow Christ. She had strong Christian values and was a true prayer warrior. Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pampa for many years. She was described as a true lady; her fashion and style were always top notch. Betty was a kind and generous woman who loved her family fiercely. Her generosity reached far beyond her family. If she was aware of a need she met it. She was known for decorating her home for the holidays and always looked forward to having her family with her. She made each holiday special. 

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; seven siblings, Riley, Peggy, Edwin, Johnny, Calvin, Judy, and Kay.

Survivors include her four children, Veronica Carroll and husband Jay of Crowell, Dennis Stowers and wife Tonja of Amarillo, Keith Stowers and wife Robin of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Kim Skinner and husband Jeff of Pampa; sisters, Patti, Carol, Phyllis, Jennifer, Vicky, Mitzi, and Pam; brothers, Ronnie, Dwayne, and Gary; she was known as “Grandma” to her grandchildren, Trey Carroll, Brent Carroll and wife Dawn, Jennifer McNabb and husband Derek, Trevor Stowers and wife Sonia, Teryn Hall and husband Brodie, Tanna Zack and husband Chris, Mindee Ferland and husband Joel, Celeste Locknane and husband Grady, Kristen Curtis and husband Tyson, Cade Kennedy, Colby Brazile and wife Lisa, Brittany Brazile, Cooper Brazile and wife Jessica, Casey Trimble, Huston Skinner, Halei Skinner, Heath Skinner and wife Samantha, and Hayden Skinner and wife KaeLee; 32 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

The family would like to thank Kinder Hearts Hospice and Brookdale Medi Park West both of Amarillo for their love and care of Betty.

Memorials can be sent to Meals on Wheels or First Baptist Church of Pampa.
