Betty Wilson, 87, of Pampa passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 in Lubbock.

Services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 11, 2024 in Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Pastor Worley Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. The service will be livestreamed through the funeral home’s website.

Betty Amanda Wilson, beloved matriarch of her family and a spirited member of the Pampa community. Born on January 20, 1937, in Pampa, Betty was the daughter of J.P. and Ruth Osborne. Her life story reads like a tale of resilience and passion for horses, a passion that she nurtured from a young age.

Graduating from Pampa High School in 1955, Betty was a force to be reckoned with. Her achievements in the rodeo community as the Top O’ Texas Rodeo Queen, and later as the Grand Champion, highlighted her dedication and love for horses. After briefly attending college at Hardin-Simmons University and Colorado State University, Betty found her calling in owning the IXL Guest Ranch in Wyoming with her first husband, Dr. Jim Bailey.

Upon returning to Pampa in 1962, Betty transitioned into veterinary practice with her husband, paving the way for her illustrious career as an AQHA judge and trainer. Her passion for horses shone through as she helped train two AQHA Supreme Champions, earning numerous accolades and recognition in the industry.

In 1977, she married Benny Wilson, sharing 20 years of companionship until his passing in 1997. A woman of many talents, Betty was known for her skills as a pianist, china painter, and her dedication to serving her community through volunteer work with organizations like 4H and the American Red Cross.

Betty's legacy extends far beyond her accomplishments in the horse world. Her strength, independence, and generosity of spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be remembered for her unwavering resolve in breaking barriers in a male-dominated field and earning respect through her perseverance. She never met a stranger and was always quick to lend a helping hand.

Friends and family are invited to join in honoring the life of this remarkable woman who left an indelible mark on those around her. Her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. 

Betty was preceded in death by: Jake Osborne, Ruth Osborne.

Survivors include her two sons, Pat Bailey and wife Kassandra Leachman of Columbus, Montana and Tam Bailey and wife Becky of Pampa; brother, Jim Osborne and wife Susie of Pampa; step son, Ben Wilson and wife Gloria of Jacksonville, Florida; two nephews, Jay Osborne and wife Lynn and Jeff Osborne and wife Julie all of Amarillo; best friend, Sonya Holder of Lefors; her faithful companion dog, Buster; and numerous extended family members.
