Bill Stevens

Bill Stevens, 87, of White Deer, died August 22, 2017 in White Deer. Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, August 25, 2017, at First Baptist Church in White Deer, with Rev. Alan Wilson, pastor, and Rev. Heath Sechrist, grandson, officiating. Burial will follow in White Deer Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Stevens was born February 20, 1930 in Flippin, Arkansas to Jess and Jessie Stevens. He joined the U. S. Army in 1949 and received an honorable discharge in 1951. Bill moved to Borger in 1945 and worked for Phillips Petroleum. Later, he worked as a roustabout, worked for Furr’s Cafeteria, and was a restauranteur. He worked for Lee Way Motor Freight from 1978-1983, and retired from the City of Amarillo Landfill in 1992 after nine years of service. Bill married Janet Pipes on June 26, 1981 in Clayton, New Mexico. He loved to fish with his grandchildren, watch them play football and run track, but most of all, he loved his Lord. Bill was a member of First Baptist Church in White Deer, was a 32nd degree Mason with the Palo Duro Lodge 1239 for 50 years, was past patron of the Amarillo Eastern Star #787, and was a member of the Scottish Rites Valley of Dallas. Bill was preceded in death by five brothers, Charlie Stevens, James Stevens Bob Stevens, Kenneth and Randall Stevens; and three sisters, Fay Cunningham, Wilma Hickmont and Norma Stevens. Survivors include his wife, Janet Stevens of the home; four daughters, Phyllis Harris and husband Jimmy of Trinity, Pat Foshee North and husband Dennis and Thelma Smith and husband Mitch, all of Naples, LaVada Sechrist and husband Calvin of Katy; a son, Ray Pipes and wife Jennifer of White Deer; nine grandchildren, Chad Harrist, Billy Joyner, Patrick McCarty, Lynn Burgess, Casey Traylor, Heath Sechrist, Amber Sechrist, Clayton Pipes and Nate Pipes; 24 great grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry Stevens and wife Janie of White Deer, and Buddy Stevens and wife Ann of Amarillo; and a special nephew, Jimmy Stevens. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, PO Box 337, White Deer, Texas 79097.
