Billie Sue Gowdy, 91, went to be with her Lord on May 7, 2020 surrounded by family in Pampa.
Services will be 10:00 AM Monday, May 11, 2020 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Pastor Norman Rushing, pastor of Central Baptist Church, officiating. Private family burial will be at Fairlawn Cemetery in Elk City, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

Billie Sue was born on October 8, 1928 to W.P. and Lucinda Dallas of Elk City, Oklahoma. She was one of six children raised on the family farm. She married Kenneth Gowdy on June 8, 1949. After graduating cosmetology school, she began working at Rene’s Hair Salon in Pampa and was a beautician for 10 years. A resident of Pampa since 1955, she was an avid bowler and a member of several bowling leagues for nearly 40 years. She was a huge golf enthusiast and a devoted Wheel of Fortune watcher for 37 years. She also enjoyed playing bridge and sewing when she had time. She was a volunteer at Columbia Medical Center for six years and a valuable asset to Ken Gowdy’s “hotshot” transport business for many years. She had been a member of Central Baptist Church since 1957 and part of the Covenant Class Sunday School.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.P. Dallas, a brother Lando Dallas, a sister Aileen Camp and her beloved friend Robert W. Fick.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Kristy Irby of Benbrook, Texas, Lori Kidd of Pampa and Polly Dougless of Hobbs, New Mexico; two sisters, Dorma Lee Johnson of Elk City, OK and Vinita Powell of Oklahoma City, OK; and a brother, Franklin Dallas and wife Betty of Phoenix Arizona; five grandchildren, Jennifer Kidd and Kevin Kidd of Pampa, Josh Dougless of Hobbs, New Mexico, Dylan Dougless of Midland and Brooke Irby of Ponder; and eight great-grandchildren, Walker, Trystan, Kendell, Aiden, Justus, Adah May, Sarah and Shelby; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A special thank you goes to “Billie’s Angels” who loved and cared for her until her passing- Pam Best, LeeAnn Landers, Tanya Bowles, Mary Gillenwater and Letty Salazar. Many thanks go to the loving caregivers at the Meredith Place and Texas Home Health Care and Hospice for their love, dedication and care.
In lieu of flowers a memorial may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
